Vincent Van Gogh's Bedroom at Arles (October 1888) was painted during a stretch of wet, miserable weather which left him with nothing to contemplate but these four walls and other indoor subjects.
Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, 1853 - 1890. Van Gogh spent his early adult life working for a firm of art dealers. After a brief spell as a teacher, he became a missionary worker in a very poor mining region. He did not embark upon a career as an artist until 1880. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life. The central figure in Van Gogh's life was his friend and brother Theo who continually and selflessly provided financial support.
Bedroom at Arles was actually painted by Van Gogh 3 times, the later version done in 1889 is the one used for this tote. The painting depicts van Gogh's bedroom in Arles, France, in what is known as the Yellow House It features portraits of his friends Eugène Boch and Paul-Eugène Milliet and was the subject of a letter to his friend & painting companion Paul Gauguin.
