Gustav Klimt - Country Garden with Sunflowers
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter. His most well-known works were influenced by the organic forms of the early Arts and Crafts movement. Klimt attended the Vienna University of Arts &and Crafts in 1876 and formed the "Company of Artists" with his two brothers, after which he was awarded the Golden Order of Merit from the Emperor of Vienna. In 1892, his father and one of his brothers died, leaving him responsible for their families. This tragedy affected his artistic vision, which helped him develop his own personal style.
Country Garden with Sunflowers" was done between 1905 and 1907 and is one of only a few floral paintings Klimt produced. It is a beautiful tapestry of colorful flowers, sunflowers and greenery executed in his contemporary Art Nouveau style which was influenced by the organic forms of the early Arts and Crafts movement.
