This iconic work features a number of Parisians at a park on the banks of the River Seine and is the 3rd painting he did of this scene. The first was a study done in 1884 followed by a 1884-1886 painting of the same scene with more subdued colors. Seurat is best known for his developing the painting technique Pointillism, a style of of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image.
