Georges Seurat - 1859 - 1891. "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" was executed between 1884 and 1886. Perhaps his best known work, this painting done in a technique called pointillism and portrays a number of Parisians at a park on the banks of the River Seine. This painting took 2 years to complete and was done after many sketches and a detailed study of the same scene he executed in 1884.
