This Pablo Picasso Necktie features a 1937 portrait of Dora Maar in his classic surrealistic Style. Dora Maar, whose real name was Henriette Theodora Markovitch, was a photographer, painter and poet. She was introduced to Pablo Picasso in 1935 and became his companion and his muse. During their tumultuous 9 year relationship, Picasso painted many portraits of her including this 1937 version that has been beautifully printed on this modern art necktie. Although Dora Maar is mostly know as one of Picasso's lovers, once she left Picasso she became an artist in her own right and is now finally being recognized for her own artistic work.
Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 in Spain. He was perhaps the most influential artist of the early 20th century. Recognized mostly for his development of the Cubist art style, he also invented collage and made major contributions to Surrealism especially in his early career. He viewed himself primarily as a painter, yet his sculpture was greatly influential, and he also explored other art forms such as ceramics and printmaking. His work remains on the cutting edge of modern art and his chaotic, charismatic personality and many relationships with women not only filtered into his art but also may have directed its course. After a wildly successful career he died in France as a still working artist in 1973.
