Seurat "La tour Eiffel"
Georges-Pierre Seurat (1859 – 1891) was a French Post-Impressionist painter and draftsman. After he completed his art schooling he began developing painting techniques known as chromoluminarism and pointillism. The tiny juxtaposed dots of multi-colored paint allow the viewer's eye to blend colors optically, rather than having the colors physically blended on the canvas. In spite of his early death, Seurat's system of color harmony became popular with French artists and the movement came to be know as Neo-Impressionism. "La tour Eiffel" or The Eiffel Tower painting was completed in 1889. It depicts the unfinished Eiffel Tower just before it's unveiling at the 1889 World Exposition in Paris, France. The painting itself is only 91/2 by 6 inches and is currently in the collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.
