Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, 1853 - 1890. He did not embark upon a career as an artist until 1880. He was supported by his brother Theo who submitted many of his work to the Salon Des Indepenents in France. Most of his best-known works were produced in the final two years of his life. Blossoming Almond Tree which was painted in 1890 is one of Vincent Van Gogh's best known paintings.
Van Gogh painted many sunflower theme paintings in various stages of life. The earlier series executed in Paris in 1887 depicts the flowers lying on the ground, while the second set executed a year later in Arles shows bouquets of sunflowers in a vase which he used as decorations for his friend Paul Gauguin's bedroom.
